Love Actually: Redux

INT. PETER AND JULIET'S FOYER - NIGHT

PETER opens the door and sees MARK standing in his front doorway holding a BOOMBOX and a series of CUE cards. PETER is pleased to see MARK and smiles. MARK, not expecting PETER to answer the door, is taken a back, flummoxed, and is unsure how to proceed. Of course, he doesn't want to tell his best friend that he's in love with his wife.

PETER
Hi!

MARK holds up his finger as if to say 'be quiet.' We quickly cut to JULIET on the couch watching television.

JULIET
Who is it?

Back on MARK, he rolls his eyes, upset that the love of his life is mere footsteps away and this has gone so wrong. He hesitantly shows PETER the card that reads "Say It's Carol Singers."

PETER
(Intrigued, but confused)
It's uh, carol singers.

In the living room, JULIET grabs the TV REMOTE and is waiting for PETER to return.

JULIET
Give them a quid and tell them to bugger off.

MARK pressed play on the BOOMBOX and "Silent Night" begins to play softly. He goes through the cue cards, all the while intending them for JULIET. However, PETER misunderstands the meaning behind them and assumes that MARK is professing his love for him. Finally, the cue cards end on "Merry Christmas" and PETER mouths "Merry Christmas" to MARK. MARK, still unsure of what just happened and how he could have calculated this so poorly, holds his two thumbs up hesitantly. MARK then walks away.

EXT. LONDON STREET - NIGHT

MARK is walking down the street holding his CUE CARDS while his BOOMBOX still plays "Silent Night." In the distance, we see PETER run toward him. Now face to face, PETER kisses MARK and looks in his eyes.

We are then taken through a quick series of scenes, each with PETER and MARK becoming noticeably older.

We are in a LAWYER's office with JULIET crying on one side of a table, while PETER holds MARK's hand. MARK is still absolutely shocked.

We are at the wedding of PETER and MARK. PETER is overjoyed, but MARK maintains his shocked expression.

We see PETER and MARK meeting their adopted ASIAN child for the first time. PETER gives the child a huge hug. MARK remains motionless and shocked.

Next, we see PETER and MARK dropping off their fully-grown CHILD at UNIVERSITY. PETER wipes away a tear. MARK is still shocked.

Finally, we're in a HOSPITAL as MARK holds PETER'S hand as he lays dying in a HOSPITAL BED. The EKG readout falls to a flatline, and PETER'S head falls on the pillow. He is dead. MARK places PETER'S hand at his side and walks out of the room.

We focus on MARK.

MARK
Enough. Enough now.
